Cummings and Kolb Join Forces on Vietnam Veterans Memorial

June 8, 2010

The Three Servicemen Statue, an integral part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC, will receive restoration treatment beginning May 25 in a project expected to last approximately six week.

The restoration will remove damage, and restore the original patina of the statue. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) and the National Park Service (NPS) are partners in the project.

James Cummings, architect of record for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a long time member of CAGLCC, will oversee the restoration project, and has designed the structure that will protect the statue during the renovation.

Joe Kolb, President of The Graphic Issue, Design & Illustration, and co-director of Membership for CAGLCC, has designed the panels that will hang on the exterior of the structure while the restoration occurs.

Once the restoration is complete, the National Park Service and VVMF will establish a conscientious program of regularly scheduled maintenance, including waxing, which will preserve the new patina and prevent future damage of this type.
