Should gay business owners out themselves when interviewing job candidates?

Some gay entrepreneurs say raising the subject isn't necessary and that it would be unprofessional to do so. "If it's not relevant, then it shouldn't be brought out in an interview," says Eileen Kessler, who is gay and the owner of OmniStudio Inc., a marketing-communications firm in Washington, D.C.

But others point to instances of recruits abruptly quitting after learning they were working for a gay-owned establishment. As a result, they say they wasted time and money in hiring those people, and may have benefitted by outing themselves at the start....

Steve Sushner, owner of District Title Corp., a Washington, D.C., provider of real estate settlements and title insurance, says he typically asks candidates if they're accustomed to working with diverse populations.
